Artist Statement
Bermuda Biennial 2024
I am playing with botanical material and colour to explore the ephemeral and transitory nature of life. The plants are printed directly on the paper, leaving a kind of fossilised imprint which then I draw into, coaxing out color and form, bringing our attention to these delicate plant structures. I really enjoy the “wabi-sabi” aspect of this process and finding beauty in the impermanence of things. As an artist, I begin with an impulse, attempt to articulate, experiment, let-go, and hopefully, discover something new each time.
BIOGRAPHY
I was born, raised and educated in Bermuda. The natural beauty of the island and excellent art teachers inspired me to pursue the arts as a life path. Currently, I live in Maine and work as a high school art teacher. However, Bermuda remains indelible tomy identity and artistic influence.
